Does ByteTranslation use machine translation?

We only work with professional human translators in order to provide specialized and accurate translations. We do not use machine translation. Some translators use Computer Assisted Translation (CAT) tools, others rely solely on a multilingual word processor and their own experience.

Does ByteTranslation use translation memory tools?

With translation memory tools, blocks of text that have been previously translated can be saved and reused to enhance consistency and provide faster turnaround. When we manage large projects, we often rely on translation memory tools.

What is Professional Translation?

Professional translation, also known as human translation, is a process involving a bilingual person translating written documents from one language to another.

What kinds of documents are best suited for professional translation?

All outgoing documents from and about your company are particularly well suited for professional translation. A good translation will help you build credibility as a global player. On the other hand, a poorly translated document will always spoil the first impression of a brand or corporate image.
Incoming foreign documents of dubious value are best suited for machine translation. For example, you would not use human translation for e-mail spam in Chinese.

Are ByteTranslation translators native speakers?

Almost all ByteTranslation translators are native speakers of the target language. We believe that accuracy depends on having translators that are native speakers. We employ a mix of technical experts with strong linguistic skills, as well as expert linguists with good technical backgrounds. All staff members have passed a rigorous selection process, and their skills are applied and developed day after day.

Does ByteTranslation have experience in my technical area?

Will ByteTranslation use my glossary of terms?

If you have glossaries of terms or acronyms or technical information about the subject to be translated, please provide us with this information.

Is the translation proofread?

Yes, the translation is reviewed and edited by a second translator to ensure that it is correct and accurate. Proofreading is essential when you want to get perfect results for business translations.

Sending/Receiving Files

How do I upload more than one document?

If you have more than one document, please upload a zipped archive.

How do I view documents with different language characters?

When you receive a translated document, you will probably want to open the translation and look at it. If the document uses a different character set (e.g. Japanese, Chinese), it will not display correctly.
If you are using Windows, you can download support for double-byte character sets from Microsoft.
Using Internet Explorer, click here (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/recommended/ime/install.mspx).
Choose the language pack you need and install it. After installation, you will be able to see the appropriate characters.
If you are using a different operating system, or if the installation fails, we will print a copy of your document and mail it to you.

What types of files can ByteTranslation handle?

The document you submit must be saved in a format that ByteTranslation can process. We can handle the following file types:

  • .doc
  • .rtf
  • .pdf
  • .htm
  • .html
  • .txt
Note: graphics, headers, footers, and macros are not recognized as part of the text to be translated. For this reason, the word count may not be accurate. If the actual word count is different from the one quoted online, we will contact you before proceeding.

Can ByteTranslation process my translation if my file type is not listed?

If you don't find your file type in the list of supported formats, just upload it in the same way and we will send you a quote within 1-2 days.

How can I send my document to ByteTranslation if it is not in an electronic format?

You can fax or mail your document to us for a quote. Our contact information can be found on the "Contact Us" page of our website.

Prices

How do I get a price quotation?

The "Instant Quote" feature on the home page is a simple way of finding out about the price for a translation. Just enter the word count, the source and target languages and the type of service requested (i.e. document translation, website translation, software localization). The price is automatically calculated for each service.

How does ByteTranslation determine the price?

Our prices are based on the word count. This is the most objective way of quantifying our work, and this pricing method is fairly standard in the translation industry. Our rates vary depending on the word count, the languages selected, and the type of service.
The price does not include the translation of text contained in graphics or any formatting after the translation process.
Please note that there is a minimum price. You can get a quote by using our "Instant Quote" feature on the home page.

Does ByteTranslation accept credit card payments?

Yes, we accept Visa, MasterCard and American Express. You will receive an invoice for services rendered, so you will have a record of the credit card payment.

Localization

What is Localization?

Localization is the process of translating software or a web site from one language into another. Localization requires completely converting the text intended for one kind of audience to a completely different one. There are many aspects involved besides the country's language: date and time formats, how to express numbers, currency symbols, etc. Language translation must be coupled with a necessary sensitivity to cultural differences.
